Horme

The inner drive which guides the very young child in his/her learning and development.   Montessori also refers to the Hormic Impulse, which drives the child toward unpremeditated action and independence.

Human tendencies

The unique and genetic characteristics of all human species.  Montessori includes orientations (in relation to spatial and environmental awareness and sense of order) gregariousness, adaptation, communication and imagination.  These tendencies are manifested in children’s sensitive periods.
